Emphasis in Sabaot Language

Every language has a way of emphasising some issues. For instance in Kiswahili one can say nyeusi or even nyeupe, but they may choose to emphasise this particular quality by saying nyeusi ti! ti! or nyeupe pe! pe ! ; This way one gets the meaning that the things being referred to are really white! Or really black!

Sabaot language is no exception. Occasionally my dad summons me and I always try as much as possible to respond to the summons! Of course, despite the fact that I wouldn’t want to ever disappoint my dad there are a few instances that I would tell him that I was not able to, for one reason or another! Now to make sure that he distinguishes those times that I may fail from the ones that I should never fail he occasionally nkalaans! (Pronounced ngalaan).

Today I give us a list of words and would expect from you to give us how the same is emphasised or what the word may mean or you may choose to use the word in a sentence to show its meaning

For nos. 1-4 use any of the following: ( Mang’, Tutung’, lib, mis)

1.      Tuuy (person/colour) le ………………

4.      Tuuy (dark e.g. night) le……………..

5.      Nkalaan                                            ( Use in a sentence to give meaning or define)

6.      Soyiin  …………..                                (How do we emphasis meanness?)

7.      Kōrōōm         nyee…………..            (How do we emphasise fierceness?)

8.      Saan ( e.g. Saanenakeey)              ( Use it in a sentence or give a definition)
